Our time in Montrose, Colorado was incredibly short and a huge blessing for me at least. We were only there for 6 months, but we saw some AMAZING amounts of snowfall and a beautiful spring. Met some of the friendliest folks on the Western Slope!
While in Montrose, I was employed as the County Fair Coordinator and although having never planned a county fair, assisted the Fairgrounds Manager and Fair Board, if you are in town at the end of July you should totally check it out! 😉
Montrose, is in a valley at the base of the San Juan mountain range, not far from Telluride, Ouray, Gunnison, and Grand Junction. Historic downtown, boasts some amazing restaurants, Colorado Boy is a must have! And some great coffee shops, I recommend Coffee Trader…not far from the fairgrounds actually! 2 Rascals brewery is one of the best on the western slope and their monthly movie night is casual and a big draw for the community.
Montrose is the gateway to the Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park on Highway 50, which is deep, steep and narrow, truly a sight to behold. It draws rock climbers from around the world to brave it’s jaw dropping climbs. Even if you aren’t a climber the trails are amazing. And in the winter they host snow shoeing and cross country skiing adventures!
Or you can enjoy a drive in, at the local drive in theater. The sun goes down pretty late in the summer, we frequently got home at 1 in the morning after the double feature. Bring blankets!
Next Week: Modesto, California
Wow- only 6 months? Looks like you had a very memorable six months, though!
And gorgeous pictures!
It was very memorable, hard to believe so much can happen in such a small span of time!
So fun. You make me want to travel. I’d love to go visit Colorado. Also, coffee shops – bonus!!! 🙂
I love a great local coffeeshop!
