Fair Trade: Mata Traders

I love artisan pieces, when we travel it’s always a joy to find something made with love and talent to bring home. The benefits of living in this modern age means I can have that same experience without traveling. Mata Traders is a brand I have been following for a while but haven’t made the leap into buying something for myself yet…empowering and giving jobs to women in India & Nepal to support themselves and their families through meaningful work.

Brand: Mata Traders

Country of Origin: India & Nepal

How they give back: Members of the Fair Trade Federation & Green America, focusing on empowering women artisans

Products: Women’s Clothes & Accessories

What to love about this brand: A love affair with India has evolved into Mata Traders – a design driven, fair trade brand helping to end global poverty and inspire ethical companies and consumers to change the fashion industry. Made by artisans in India and Nepal, [their] colorfully original designs are now sold in 50 states and 12 countries, and provide a stable source of income for families in some of the world’s poorest communities. What I love about Mata Traders: This is one of those brands I am fairly new to. I’ve been following them on Instagram and Facebook for a few months now, after getting serious about ethical fashion in the last year. India & Nepal are two countries with a large artisan and poverty population, figuring out to to utilize the skills this people group have and providing them with valuable employment is good for their families and for those of us who can’t get enough of what they are making.
