As a lover of written words, this book spoke to me in a way none has before. The assortment of subject matter from social justice, to marriage counseling and elder spiritual care was a fresh new take on faith in the modern era.
This sampling of letters written by Henri J.M. Nouwen to many of the people who read his books or were directly aquatinted with him. The book spans the last 30 years of his life from Yale, Harvard, to missionary work in Peru to his final home at L’Arche Daybreak.
I loved the simplicity & depth of these intimate written correspondence between him and those who took time to write him. Travis read The Wounded Healer during seminary, and one of my favorite authors recommended this on Instagram (I’ve said it in the past book recommendations mean a lot to me) and one of my new favorite authors (and speakers) wrote the forward which I found beautiful and inspiring. In a time when we are spending more and more time online and getting instant answers it’s nice to look back on a time not to long ago when letters were a primary form of communication.
Overall, I’d recommend this to those who are looking for a little bit of encouragement in life. No matter what is going on, Henri has some beautiful up lifting words to brighten your day with deep affection for his readers.
