Travis and I have been on the Always Hungry (AH) lifestyle, since February. He has seen dramatic health benefits from this new way of eating and approaching food, while I have lost a few pounds and still have a healthy craving for all bread, crabs and pasta that I see.
Knowing that the way we eat is impacting our bodies for the better has made dinner, and every other meal for that matter more creative and interesting. I use the parameters given within our AH lifestyle and get creative with how to incorporate more vegetables, make new sauces or replace ingredients in recipes that I love. For example, now that it is cooling off here in California I love to make Zuppa Toscana the only part of this recipe that isn’t AH friendly besides the crusty bread to soak up all the creamy yumminess are the white potatoes. So, I took a chance and threw in sweet potatoes and it was not only AH friendly but a delightful addition to this yummy favorite.
I’ve chosen several recipes this year from the Nourishing Meals cookbook for our Thanksgiving meal. This cookbook features allergen free recipes perfect for people and families with a variety of allergies from gluten to soy and even dairy free. Neither of us have food allergies, and but I do love the challenge of assembling meals that are nourishing and fill us with good ingredients. Each recipes tells the reader which allergens it is free of as well as kitchen tips and nutrition tips. As well has an in-depth introduction to changing diets for children & adults who have been diagnosed with food allergies.
Some of our favorite recipes for Thanksgiving include:
- Balsamic Roasted Chicken with figs & sweet onion
- Whipped Sweet Potatoes with Cardamom
- Maple Pecan Pie
- Cranberry-Pear Sauce
Not to mention, all the smoothie ideas are totally out of this world creative, yummy and filling!
