Finished Reading: Chasing Slow

Chasing Slow was a book that filled my Instagram feed over December & January leading up to its launch date. I find out about more books from launch team folks on Instagram than I do anywhere else. (Thanks Jen Hatzung!) I wasn’t sure what to expect from this one. I honestly had never heard of Erin or her blog before, although I wish I had, it seems like we have a lot in common.

Chasing Slow Review on Adventurous Shelby

I loved this book, but it seems to be the style of books people want to read right now. Women want to read about each other’s failures and successes, how we didn’t make the right decisions. Life didn’t go the way we planned and yet, it all turned out ok. I know I have this since of hope for my life when I read books like Erin’s. I know I come away feeling like it’s ok, no this isn’t what I thought I’d be doing or where I’d be living at 30 and yet here I am. And you know what? That’s ok.

It’s ok to fail.

It’s ok to say no.

It’s ok to take the non-traditional path.

Lord, knows my path is not traditional, not what I would have planned for myself and yet I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Erin’s story of love, bankruptcy, and starting over reminds women in a world seeking perfection that it is ok to fail. To not wear makeup every day, to turn down opportunities that aren’t right, to make the tough decision to do what is right for her. For some that means working full time, for some women that means being a homemaker and for some that means pursuing what makes you happy no matter what society or your family wants of you.

“Here is the secret to subtraction. It doesn’t matter what you remove. What matters is that you stop adding it back.” pg. 131

Overall, this is a beautiful book that brought me to tears, made me laugh out loud and say, “Yes, Girl!” So grab a copy and feel empowered that you are not alone in this big wide world of ours. Get a copy from Amazon, HERE
