My mom is a crafter, she always taught us to try to make before buying. With her I’ve made rabbit hutches, customized spirit jeans for homecoming, made more curtains than imaginable, and she’s always sewn my halloween costumes.
I on the other hand need help with crafting. My mom can envision an entire project from beginning to end. She knows what she needs and how to assemble her creations. She can sew ANYTHING (don’t let her tell you differently).
In Janet Crowther’s book A Well-Crafted Home, she gives us DIY wannabe’s all the steps and tools needed to create those homemade pieces without looking like we don’t know what we’re doing. Now, the sewing projects, I’m going to have trouble with 1) I don’t have a sewing machine (my sister has it) 2) every time I try to sew something, I get into an argument with the bobbin. We don’t get along.
Side note: I should take a sewing class.
There are several projects in here, I’d love to tackle. The one that intrigues me the most is the copper garment rack! I’ve been eye-balling a garment rack perfect for limited wardrobe challenges, but our space isn’t conducive for one right now. But I’m dreaming of making this one! Although, I’m thinking of using PVC piping instead of copper and spray painting it rose gold/copper…thats the fun thing about DIYing! Making it your own!
Other projects I’m dreaming of making my own: the dyed fabric ottoman for the living room, ice dyed blanket for a unique throw, along with the painted ceramic trays these would be great Christmas gifts!
If you love DIYing then this book maybe too easy for you, if you need inspiration and instruction on how to create then this is a great resource for you. Janet gives readers helpful tips and the imagery is going to inspire you!
