I don’t write nearly enough personal or reflective posts anymore. Blogging over the last few years has turned into a bit of an advertising space for brands and products.
I’ve been slowly making my way through 100 days to brave from Annie F Downs, and I love her encouraging words on the subject of your calling. Over the last several days, she’s been talking about the difference between your calling and your dreams.
Your calling is cash in the bank; Your dreams are all the ways you can come up with how to spend that cash. -Day 32
She also talked about how to know what you’re supposed to do.
You need to walk through life and stumble and soar and go through all the things and notice what you’re drawn to and what doesn’t work. -Day 33
When she mentioned stumbling all I could think of was my photography ‘career’, it wasn’t glamorous or even make me any money. But I learned so much about entrepreneurship and applying my creative perspective.
I was especially encouraged by what she said about jobs on Day 34, “Jobs come and go. Your calling won’t. It’s not what you do but it’s how you do it.”
I’ve had a WIDE range of jobs over the years, office assistant at a university, receptionist at a vet clinic, county fair coordinator, personal stylist, blogger, and so on. So to hear that all these have a purpose linked to my calling, is wildly encouraging.
You have to be brave enough to work where you are…Do your best today in whatever spot you’re in. That will take you to the next piece. -Day 36
In each of my jobs, I have worked with people and helped them think more creatively and I’ve done a lot of typing. Those 2 skills have helped me lean into my passion of ethical fashion and create new job opportunities that are passion focused.
I don’t know where my calling will take me in the future, but I can rest assured that God has a plan and all these pieces will work together for His good.
Have you discovered your calling?
I encourage you to grab a copy of Annie’s new devotional, 100 days to Brave and bravely try to find your God given calling in a brave life!
