Okay, ya’ll for the last month you’ve been refining your list of what you like and I hope you had fun and an enlightening experience while trying on all the things you like! Through trying on all those cuts, colors, styles, details, and materials hopefully you narrowed down your list to specific palettes, silhouettes and materials. Okay, ya’ll for the last month you’ve been refining your list of what you like.
Now it’s time to write out your style rules, what fabrics and materials do you prefer? Why? (this is actually a lot more important than it may seem. To be able to articulate why you like a particular color palette, silhouette, or details are imperative to solidifying your style.) Are you modest about your arms, or prefer a certain skirt length?

I’ve found being specific and having a written list of the materials & cuts that I prefer I’m less likely to stray from my style and pieces begin to work together in an effortless sort of way. I’m not saying you can’t ever try items outside your list in the future but you’ll find which trends fall into your style which makes trying them easier. For example, say you have leopard print and ankle boots on your list and with new cuts and styles coming out for the new season, it’s easy for you to add leopard print ankle boots to your wardrobe, knowing they fit your style and will mix and match the rest of your wardrobe making them a versatile addition to your wardrobe.
Write out 8-10 pieces you own & love.
Try to grab a few pieces from each category; tops, bottoms, dresses, shoes. Why do you love it? List the reasons. Things to consider: the fit, feel, material, color, style, details, length, sleeves, etc.
What is working for me?
Notice any common themes from your notes on fabric, feel, and fit. Make a list of those things that are working for you.
Next Write out 8-10 (if you have that many) pieces you own & never wear.
Why do you pass it up when getting dressed? What common themes are there?
