Every year I set goals, not resolutions. Resolutions get pushed to the wayside so easily, but goals these feel more actionable to me. More solidified. I’m setting 3 goals this year: 1) more mindfulness 2) grow my business and 3) have fun
So to practice more mindfulness in the new year, I’ve set 3 actionable ways to be more mindful in my day to day life.
- Meditate – I know meditation isn’t for everyone. But in 2019 I found being silent and being aware of the thoughts that come to my mind and letting them float away removes a lot of unnecessary stress and shame. I love to meditate while watering my planets or sit in silence for at least 10 minutes without interruption.
- Screen free time – I wanted to not look at my phone for the first hour of each day last year. I did a decent job at it. Not splendid but, it was a step forward. In the new year, I want to be better at doing this daily. Theoretically, I could combine my meditation & screen free time into one goal, and do them together.
- Journaling – when I put my feelings into words everything changes. I can seperate words from the people who spoke them, I can process my struggles with politcs, world events, relationships, work, and so on. Journaling is also a good technique for memorization, affirmations, and learning. I frequently use journaling as part of my meditation and write affirmations and scripture that squash my shame.
Now, I don’t fail if I mess up or forget to do these things. Even in my failures, I’m offered an oppurtunity to learn and try again.
