One of the things I look for when buying from new brands are the techniques in which items are made; are these machine made items or handmade? As well as sustainability efforts, natural fibers and eco-friendly dyes, and I’m so excited to share Passion Lilie with you today. Passion Lilie is an ethical fashion brand that encompasses all the values I hold dear as an individual and as a fashion blogger. They use 2 techniques that I find most intreging, blocking printing and ikat handwoven fabric.

Block Printing is a centuries old art form popular in India, China, and many other East Asian countries. It is also referred to simply as “block printing” or “woodblock printing.”
Block Printing can be done on both woven fabrics and jersey knit fabrics.

While many of Passion Lilie’s fabrics are ikat and handwoven fabrics. Ikat, meaning “to tie” or “to bind” in Indonesian, involves applying bindings, which resist dye penetration, to the threads in the desired pattern, the threads are then dyed, the bindings are removed and finally the threads are woven into fabric. The patterns can be extremely intricate depending on the number of colors and bindings that are used. During ancient times, because its creation was so time consuming, ikat dyeing was often a status symbol of wealth and power.
Fair trade is not charity. It is a trade-based movement that focuses on creating long-term relationships based on transparency, trust, and respect with producers in underserved areas. It’s about promoting trade that is equal, just, and empowering.
As a fair trade company, Passion Lilie currently works with several producer groups in India. We provide fair wages and work with organizations that ensure safe and healthy working conditions for their artisans. For us, it is also important to give each worker a voice and make sure they are genuinely happy and comfortable with their job. This can mean everything from clean water to time off. Our business is a member of the Fair Trade Federation, and we support positive and uplifting working environments around the globe.
