Did all our troubles end at midnight? No. My favorite podcast, recommended writing a grief letter to 2020, so I thought I’d share some pieces from that writing exercise which I found incredibly therapeutic as well as some fun 2021 pieces!

Pantone’s Colors of the Year
This year Pantone selected 2 colors for the year, the other time Pantone did this was in 2016 with Rose Quartz and Serenity Blue. Our 2021 Colors of the year are Ultimate Gray & Illuminating. “PANTONE 17-5104 Ultimate Gray + PANTONE 13-0647 Illuminating, two independent colors that highlight how different elements come together to support one another, best express the mood for Pantone Color of the Year 2021. Practical and rock solid but at the same time warming and optimistic, the union of PANTONE 17-5104 Ultimate Gray + PANTONE 13-0647 Illuminating is one of strength and positivity. It is a story of color that encapsulates deeper feelings of thoughtfulness with the promise of something sunny and friendly.”
Last year, about this time I was wishing and hoping for the 2020 color to be a cheerful yellow a brightness to illuminate the new decade. Instead we got Classic Blue, which in hindsight was a much better choice based on how we collectively felt through 2020, blue.
My 2021 Word of the Year
Several years ago, I gave up on resolutions and instead began choosing a word of the year. Last year, as I wrote in my 2020 wrap up was growth and while much of that growth was inward and below the soil line, it was still growth even if you couldn’t see it. For 2021, my word is hope. Hope for the future, for my blog, for our little family.
Dictionary.com defines hope as a noun as “a feeling of expectation and desire for a certain thing to happen”, an archaic definition of hope was “a feeling of trust”, and as a verb “intend if possible to do something”. I want 2021 to be a year of expectation for good things to happen and I want to trust that 2021 won’t bring about the same crippling anxiety that 2020 carried. In 2021, I want to see our family reach for an achieve the things we’ve been struggling with over the last several years. A good fulfilling job calling for my husband & that the work I put into this little blog will show in BIG ways.
Happy 2021 friends, may the new year bless you with health, peace, and joy!
Happy new year, Hope is a good word for 2021, I hope its a better year.
PS I like that yellow is one of the colors of the year, I know someone who loves that color.:)
