Each year since 2000, beginning with Cerulean blue, calling it the “color of the millennium”. The last time, Pantone chose a yellow shade was in 2009 and picked Mimosa. Which was a warm and cozy yellow for a stroke of optimism. Traditionally, colors of the year have not only influenced but also influenced colors for interior design, fashion, and design.
This year’s color(s) of the year are Ultimate Gray & Illuminating Yellow!
So how does one incorporate the colors of the year into their wardrobe?
For someone with an abundance of yellow & gray in their wardrobe, it’s easy. But if you aren’t like me and love yellow in all its shades then adding a bright yellow to your wardrobe can feel too bright and adventurous. So, I’m including some easy and fun ways to add these colors to your 2021 wardrobe.
I love wearing yellow (& gray for that matter), and I have since I was little. For years it has been a favorite color, so it has always been an easy color to incorporate into any color palette. If wearing a yellow top or layer is too much for your taste, start with something less bold. Reach for gray instead, because there are 2 colors this year. A classic grounding gray piece will keep your look timeless and is the perfect blank canvas to add pops of color with yellow or otherwise.
One of my favorite and most worn yellow pieces are my yellow The Root Collective Flats, not only are these perfect to wear and add a pop of color to my wardrobe but also are my most complimented piece in my wardrobe! Another way to add yellow is creating a custom half moon clutch from Sseko Designs, or choose a yellow scarf like the one below from Trades of Hope or August Willows.
If apparel or accessories are TOO much for you reach for some color coordinated jewelry. Sela Designs creates lovely leather and cork jewelry made in Wisconsin by Ashleigh and she donates her profits to organizations that help empower women and organizations to end human trafficking. I’ve picked a few pieces from her site that are in the new Pantone Colors of the Year!
