Wear it Wednesday | Styling a Shirtdress for Summer

When it gets hot outside, I gravitate towards cotton & linen made pieces and lots of comfy & versatile dresses. Including this new shirtdress from Liz Alig. Her pieces are handwoven, giving them a unique feel and making them the perfect breathable styles to reach for on hot days. I was gifted this shirtdress from Liz Alig, and some of the links in this post are affiliate links.

Shirt dresses are not a new trend, but they are getting a facelift. This new shirtdress from Liz Alig has a loose straight fit with wooden buttons, and a timeless collar at the neckline. I admit, I was worried about the length & as a cautionary action bought bike shorts to wear under them only to find the front and sides of the shirtdress, the shortest hems, are as long as my shorts! The plus side to adding bike shorts, pockets and additional coverage.

Here are 3 ways I am wearing my shirtdress from Liz Alig this summer:

Look 1: Shirt Dress & Sandals & Crochet Bag

Saturday Farmer’s Market here I come!

I’m cool, comfy, and even if the wind blows the hem of this straight dress won’t fly up and leave me exposed. Perfect for staying cool, even on the hottest of days and the fit allows air to flow between the dress and my body.

Look 2: Shirt Dress & Crop Pants & Clogs

Increase coverage & style by adding coordinating crop pants with my shirt dress, and the addition of my swedish clogs brings this look to a new level. Great for grabbing coffee or a uber stylish work meeting and staying comfortable on cool summer evenings. I chose to wear my shirt dress unbuttoned from the top of my pants down, giving it a cape-like feeling. And altering the silhouette to highlight my waistline.

Look 3: Shirt Dress & Huarache Sandals

For roaming around downtown with a friend, a shirt dress with my favorite ethically made huarache sandals and a cross body bag are my go to. I have no qualms about pairing black and brown together, who ever decided they clashed clearly never tried them together! The best part about this dress is it is roomy enough that it doesn’t stick to my body when I’m hot. The fit allows for air to move around me keeping me cool and oh so comfortable!

If you don’t like the straight fitting look of this shirtdress simply add a slender belt to your waistline & even out the gathering so it is bunched evenly around your body.
