An Adventurous Day Trip to Breckenridge

When I’m not writing about sustainable style or crocheting, I spend my days as a Marketing Manager for a locally owned hotel. One of the perks of working in hospitality is experiencing the offerings we create. This season, we’ve partnered with a few local businesses to craft unique getaway packages, and I recently got to tag along for one of our ski shuttles to Breckenridge, Colorado. While I didn’t hit the slopes (it’s been years since I last skied!), the day was a perfect blend of adventure, discovery, and capturing content for work.

The day kicked off bright and early at 7 a.m. at Rocky Mountain Ride's office. Their warm hospitality immediately set the tone—think fresh coffee, hot chocolate, and treats for the road. The team efficiently loaded everyone’s gear into the van, and soon, we were on our way. Our driver, a true local expert, filled the ride with fascinating stories and facts about the region, even introducing me to wildlife I hadn’t spotted before, like pronghorns and mule deer. We even passed buffalo grazing on private ranches along Highway 24—a surreal sight against the backdrop of the Rockies.

Once we arrived in Breckenridge, the skiers were dropped off at the resort, but my adventure was just beginning. The driver kindly made a quick detour so I could visit Isak Heartstone, an incredible troll sculpture by artist Thomas Dambo tucked into the forest. From there, I was dropped off at the base of the Breckenridge Gondola, a must-ride for anyone visiting. The gondola ride is free, and the sweeping views of the mountains and town below are worth every second.

At the top of the gondola, I found myself at Peak 8, buzzing with energy as skiers and snowboarders launched into their runs. The area offered plenty of cozy spots to sit and enjoy the scenery, a coffee shop, restaurants, and gear rentals. Watching the skiers was mesmerizing, but after a while, I decided to head back down and explore downtown Breckenridge.

First stop? Coffee, of course. I stumbled upon The Crown, a charming café where I ordered a latte infused with local spruce syrup. I was skeptical but pleasantly surprised—it didn’t taste like a Christmas tree in a cup! Bonus points for the discount they gave me for bringing my own mug. Refueled, I wandered through the shops, picking up a few thoughtful gifts for my husband and friends.

For lunch, I stopped at Bird & Cow, a casual spot with delicious offerings, before making my way to the library. Libraries are one of my favorite travel escapes—they’re free, quiet, and perfect for recharging without the pressure to spend money. Breckenridge’s library didn’t disappoint; I caught up on emails, did some crocheting, and enjoyed the calm before heading back to the shuttle pick-up spot.

The ride home was serene. After a day of exploring, most passengers dozed off, and I nearly joined them. It was the perfect reminder of why taking a shuttle is a brilliant choice—no stress, no driving, just relaxation. By 5:30 p.m., we were back, just in time for dinner and a cozy evening at home.

This trip reminded me that even a day-long escape can feel like a grand adventure. Whether you’re hitting the slopes or simply soaking in the mountain charm, Breckenridge offers something for everyone. If you’re planning a visit, consider taking a shuttle—it’s the ultimate way to enjoy the journey and the destination.
