Spring/Summer 2024 Crochet Projects

If you don’t know, I love to crochet. I learned 2 years ago when a popular ethical fashion brand came out with a granny square bag that I HAD to have but wanted it in my favorite colors.

Ever since then, I’ve been crocheting. I’ve made a few bags, scarves, cowls, shawls, a sweater, tops, wash clothes, and baby blankets. Mostly everything I make is for me, close friends, or family because it takes a long time, and I love to enjoy the fruits of my labor. So here are a few things I’ve made this summer and perhaps a round-up of my recent crochet projects can be a regular occurrence on the blog!

On The Go Bag

I made this bag using DK weight cotton yarn held double throughout as a gift for a friend from church. She generously gave me the bag she was carrying one day after I complimented her on it, so I wanted to return the favor. I absolutely loved making this—it was easy, fun, and super quick!

Short Sleeve Bamboo Tee

For this top, I used Bamboo Lucky Brand yarn and followed the same pattern as my long-sleeved sweater. I really need to stop making striped tops, though, because weaving in all those ends is a killer! This top is perfect for layering over dresses in the summer, although it’s got a bit of weight to it. I even wore it on my birthday this year!

Yellow V Neck Top

This top is made with Pima cotton yarn, I've had sitting in my stash for a while, and this pattern is perfect for it. One of our Service Adventure participants made it as her first wearable last year, and I recently came across the pattern while scrolling through my saved projects. So, I grabbed the yarn and dove right in! I’ve finished the front and most of the back panel, but I ran out of yarn. So that slowed me down until my last skein could arrive and once it did I finished it quickly! (I did sew in my ends, I promise!)

Silk Triangle Shawl

I crocheted this silk shawl using lace-weight yarn held double. The pattern actually called for DK-weight yarn and around 450 yards, but I had 900 yards of silk lace-weight, so I went for it with the same hook size. It was my first time working with silk, and wow, it was such a treat!

The yarn came from Darn Good Yarn in my monthly subscription box. At first, I wasn’t too sure about the colors and figured I’d end up giving it away, but now I’m not so sure!

Joshua Tree Top

I made this top with yarn I bought on my birthday, if you are new to making wearables I highly recommend this pattern. It is simply 2 rectangles sewn together!

As I wrap up these crochet projects, I'm already looking ahead to what’s next. In my queue for autumn are a few baby blankets I need to finish so I can deliver them in person this winter, along with two cowls, my first cardigan, another short sleeve top, and some washcloths. Of course, that list is totally subject to change depending on my mood—because who knows what new patterns or yarns will catch my eye! Crochet has been such a fun and rewarding journey, and I can’t wait to see where my hooks and yarn take me next.
