March 8 - Lenten Reflection

Reflecting on the past three weeks of Lent, I've found myself occasionally succumbing to the temptation of peeking at my social media feeds. However, I've maintained strict boundaries, allowing myself only one brief check per day without engaging or watching any videos. Despite this minor slip, I've remained committed to my Lenten practice, focusing on deeper forms of rest and self-expression.

Last week provided moments of joy, particularly during our Family Fellowship night with Service Adventure. Bowling with church families was a delightful experience, despite the shaky start. After a game and a half, I rediscovered my bowling skills, nearly breaking 100 in the second game and ending victorious over my housemates.

The rescheduled Manitou Springs Carnivale Parade on March 2 was another highlight. Opting for eco-friendly transportation, my partner and I borrowed ebikes from my workplace, relishing the scenic ride into Manitou. A Goldilocks moment happened as, I found the perfect cruiser ebike, fitting like a glove and ignited my love for ebiking. Despite the nerve-wracking journey back, navigating the parade and returning home, I yearned to extend the adventure with a ride through Garden of the Gods, but the mid-day parade left us without packing a lunch so we headed home instead.

Embracing the quiet mornings without doomscrolling on social media, I've delved into journaling, although often interrupted by my furry kitties. To complement this reflective practice, I've been exploring a more creative ritual with a Bible Doodling Journal gifted by my sister. Despite its unusual layout, the prompts have spurred moments of artistic expression, guiding my mornings with thoughtful creativity, meditation, and reflection.

Furthermore, I've rediscovered the therapeutic joys of crocheting, embarking on smaller projects since completing my sweater. From crafting leg warmers to bike helmet ear warmers for my mentee, each creation brings a sense of accomplishment. Equipping my helmet with ear warmers has transformed my cycling experience, my feelings towards my helmet itself are meh at best. I’d love to get one of those cool-looking commuter helmets from Thousand.

With the decision not to extend our tenure as a Service Adventure Leader next year, my thoughts have been drifting toward future adventures. From trips to Alaska to exploring local yarn festivals and tea tours, the possibilities for fall excursions seem to occupy my daydreams. Car camping at the Sand Dunes and embarking on spontaneous weekend getaways promise moments of discovery and connection, fueling anticipation for the season ahead.
